I was born into a house filled with music. On the weekends especially, all the Motown classics were in rotation, because how else would my Dad be able to keep his “Motown” nickname? Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear… Al Jarreau, George Benson, Kenny G… too much music, too little space to name them all.
Makes sense that I started off as a producer, I also did the rapping thing for a while but let’s not talk about that. After being bathed in the classics, it only made sense to reach back and sample them.
Admittedly, I wasn’t the greatest producer. My patience for the sometimes mundane nature of creation wore thin. My output was one beat a month, only if I managed to like what I did in the span of three hours.
Surprising then, that I found my home in technical creativity. Shaping existing material into sonic works of art.
I made mixing my home and central focus and it has provided me a happy career.
It brings me joy to be apart of so many different artist’s and brands creative journeys.
